Power of Steele withstands Kryptonite in South Texas Classic

Power of Steele withstands Kryptonite in South Texas Classic

I don't know what I'm more impressed with after watching the final game on yesterday, Cibolo Steele's ability to find a way to win or Laredo United's relentless fight to the end, well yes I do, BOTH !!!! Let me say this, the South Texas Classic started off with a tremendous battle between defending state champion Converse Judson and San Antonio Johnson in the second game and had plenty of action all day long. This was good for a number of reasons, I had a chance to see players I hadn't seen along with many others in different settings and systems, so a number of these young ladies will be added to both the Rankings and  Watch Lists but first, how good is Steele? REALLY REALLY GOOD [caption id="attachment_98161" align="alignleft" width="300"] Bria McClure[/caption] I know I write a lot of things over and over yet in this era of 280 characters and "likes and retweets" being repetitive is needed because a lot of times, some may not get it but always remember this, "the game starts at the one" and Bria McClure, 2021, is definitely the straw that stirs the drink and although I'm stealing that line, it fits. Watching this young lady take charge and control over the years, as well as her continuous progression, tells me she's going to be an even better college player because she has no fear, her size doesn't matter because she can play, she's a vocal leader that ignites both her teammates and the crowd, and is she is a nightmare to defend because you just don't know what she is going to do because she brings so much to the table but even more importantly, she makes her teammates better [caption id="attachment_98162" align="alignright" width="300"] Asjha Leake[/caption] Speaking of progression, fellow junior Asjha Leake is more than just a typical 6'3 post. She' s facing the basket to score, defending i the perimeter and handling the ball in the open court. Her strength in the paint will make them a team that needs to be reckoned with, not only in the McDonald's Texas Invitational where I'll catch them again outside of Houston but in their run for state, and who knows, after Converse Judson's state title last season, wouldn't it be something if a team from Region 4 pulled off  back to back state championships in their hometown, well sort of. Speaking of the Texas Invitational, Aaliyah McMillan will be back in action, not sure if she can sing but she has records and she'll be back in the tournament where I'm told she set numerous three point records last season. McMillan and another Aaliyah, Aaliyah Ellis help round out a very talented junior class that will make plenty noise not only this season but next [caption id="attachment_98163" align="alignleft" width="300"] Zaya Price[/caption] I throw a lot of old sayings around, some that are dated and sometimes make absolutely no sense "to me" but "the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores" is one of them I never got. I don't know how good Sidney Love was last season but she left a lasting first impression and since I have nothing on her in either search bar on my sites, if I saw her, I had no roster and this is why I stress the importance of having non erroneous information because I hate "do overs", stole that from The Wire. No matter what class, grade or level you're playing in, you should be getting better, I knew Aja Holmes could play as a 6th grader and using the search bars, I wrote many times about her progression and now I have the TCU commit as one of the Top 20 players in the state for 2020 because she is an absolute BEAST. Why I didn't have Zaya Price in my initial Texas Top 100 is somewhat mind boggling, she made the Tip Sheet from last season's Texas Invitational but fear not, she's on there now and she's everywhere on the court creating problems on both ends. This is an exciting team, in fact I'm opening and closing my TI coverage, no Tiny, with FBISD sandwiched in between, wait, no I'm not but I will catch two days
