Aaliyah is a really good prospect. Defensively, she has excellent anticipation in passing lanes. She has strong closeout discipline. She moves without the ball well. She constantly relocates into scoring windows. She makes winning basketball decisions. She demonstrates good court awareness and continues to improve her recognition of help defenders. She understands basic pick-and-roll reads. Aaliay is a very good passer; she rarely forces the ball into difficult passing angles. Her passes are accurate with timing and good touch on the ball. She has an explosive first step that immediately creates separation. As a young player, she is learning how to maximize her athletic ability. Her long-term athletic upside remains very high. Aaliyah plays under control in transition without sacrificing the pace of the game.

Very strong full court defender who may have been the top on ball defender in the gym. Good lateral speed and movement to keep her opponent from advancing. Matched up very well against some of the better guards at the event. Offensively, is patient and takes what the defense gives her. Makes the quick step and drive the lane hard almost always scoring or getting to the line. One of the top players in transition. Phillips has a strong overall game could elevate to a top guard prospect in her class.

Phillips played very well throughout the event and impacted every game I watched. She is a well-built guard who understands how to use her strength on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she can play through contact and get where she wants to go; defensively, her physicality lets her create problems for opposing guards.

Phillips is a versatile combo guard who had a strong showing at Section 7 over the summer. She can impact the game in multiple ways and has the all-around skill set to step in and contribute right away.
