My favorite guard of the weekend out of any grade level was Audrey Sims of Della Lamb 3SSB. Sims is that PG that you love as a coach. She makes things seems so easy within the game of basketball and she makes everyone else around her better with her ability to handle, create, distribute, and score. We saw several examples of that as she competed over the last few days. She hit jumpers with ease off the dribble and catch, she got others around her going on almost every other play, she defended and rebounded at a steady rate, she was one of the first on the floor for loose ball opportunities, and she showed glimpses of a complete overall game while helping her team win. We saw a lot of promise at this event and Sims could end up being one of the best at the end of the day if she keeps getting better as she gets older.

As a legitimate combo guard, Audrey showed a versatile skillset today. A majority of her highlight plays came from her ability to get to her spots in the midrange and let it go. The form is pure, there is no hesitation, and that opens up the rest of her game. She also made some pinpoint passes that most players would not even try. Strong potential.

Sims was impressive, to say the least, tonight. She had her full offensive arsenal on display throughout the evening and came out setting the tone by aggressively looking for her shot. She consistently showcased the lost art of the midrange game, pulling up off the bounce multiple times with great touch and confidence.
She also stretched the defense beyond the arc, proving she can knock down shots from deep. Beyond her scoring, Sims demonstrated her ability to be a true playmaker. She made several strong reads out of the pick-and-roll, feeding the big for easy finishes, and delivered some sharp post entries that led to quality looks inside.

Sims showed why she’s one of the top sophomores in the area, proving her impact goes beyond scoring. She was excellent on the defensive end all night. Offensively, she found her rhythm later in the second quarter, knocking down a smooth pull-up jumper followed shortly by a quick three from the wing. She played unselfishly throughout and consistently made the right reads within the flow of the game.

Sims, coming off a high ankle sprain that has kept the freshman out of the line up for over a week, came back Saturday night and led the Trojans to a 43-41 upset win, on the road, over the 6th ranked team in Kansas City (Shawnee Mission Northwest) with 14 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

A 5’8″ point guard who is a very talented offensive player with three-level scoring ability. She creates off the dribble very well with her excellent handles, plus she makes good use of the jab step to set up defenders very well. Her shooting range is deep and she can maneuver herself into the lane to hit short jumpers off the glass. She can also operate well off the pick and roll with the 3-pointer and the ability to get downhill on the drive.
