About Awa

What's your biggest strength as a player, and how does it show up in games?

My ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Offensively, I can use my first step to get past defenders, attack the basket, and finish through contact, but I can also knock down shots. Defensively, I stay in front of my player, pressure the ball, and try to make things difficult without fouling. Even when I’m not scoring, I can still help my team with my defense, effort & energy.

What are you working to improve right now?

Right now, I’m working on becoming a more vocal leader on the court. I already try to lead by working hard and setting a good example, but I want to communicate more, encourage my teammates, and help direct everyone during games. I’ve gotten better at it, and I’m continuing to push myself to speak up and be more confident.

What are you looking for in a college program?

I’m looking for a college program that will push me to grow as a player and as a person. My dream is to play professionally, so I want coaches who will challenge me, develop my game, and help me understand what it takes to compete at the highest level. I also want a strong team culture where players support each other, work hard, and are serious about winning. Academics are important to me too.

Outside of your sport, what should coaches know about you?

I’m a pretty laid-back, family-oriented person. I love traveling, going to the beach, trying new food, and spending time with the people close to me. Panama is one of my favorite places I’ve visited, and I could probably eat crab legs every day. I also take school seriously, listen well, and try to treat people with respect. I may be quiet at first, but once I’m comfortable, my personality is peak

What do you want to study, and what career interests you?

I want to study communications, sports media, or broadcast journalism. My first goal is to play professional basketball, but after my playing career, I want to become a sports commentator. I would love to stay connected to the game, share my knowledge, and help people understand basketball from a player’s point of view.
