Ayla is a player I had heard a good amount about over the last couple years but had not had the chance to watch closely. If Saturday was any indication of her play, then I regret that I haven’t seen her sooner. Ayla was very good shooting the basketball from the perimeter, something I expected after hearing from numerous coaches that she was a sniper from three. Her ability to get to the rim and score in the halfcourt and transition was a very pleasant surprise, however. Summers is long and covers a lot of ground with her stride. She can really elevate off the floor as well which was on full display when she leapt above opposing defenders at the rim. Mill Creek is not that far down the road from me and now I have a reason to go watch them play. Bella Ragone (injured) missed almost (if not) all of last season before departing for Notre Dame, so Summers should be prepared to carry the load offensively for her team.

Ayla brought energy and effort while showing a varied scoring approach. She got to her spots on the floor, attacked the cup, and used crafty finishes to complete her work around the basket. Her willingness to keep pressure on the rim kept defenders on their heels. Her attacking mindset made her a constant scoring threat and made defenders very uncomfortable. There was more to her showing than simply looking for a finish as she showed court vision and involvement on the glass, giving her additional ways to contribute to a possession. As long as her energy, vision, and scoring approach stay connected, she will always be a tough cover.

Pure shooter. Terrific off the catch from beyond the arc. Utilizes one and two-dribble pull-ups. Works well away from the ball to get open off flare screens.

A true catch-and-shoot specialist. Excels at reading defenses and playing screens. Gets a lot of flare screens to free herself for open looks. Doesn’t hesitate to shoot upon the catch. Implements one and two-dribble pull-ups and can hit step-back jumpers from the mid-range.
