Ayumi is a twitchy point guard who has an extra gear when she handles the rock. She has shifty handles and zoomed by a defender to score a strong and-one layup through contact. Ayumi used wide pushouts and between-the-legs crossovers to set up defenders, then accelerated through gaps to score layups and earn trips to the line. She knocked down free throws efficiently, scored with a smooth inside hand finish, worked hard to apply pressure on the perimeter, showed good touch on her floaters, and kicked the ball out effectively to open shooters. Ayumi had a great weekend for Mac Irvin 17U Select at the PGH MI College Tour.

I’ve been keeping track of Ishikawa for a while and I am impressed with her growth. She plays strong in every facet of the game. When she has the ball and attacking downhill, you better be ready to play because she will use her shoulder to carve space and finish with strength. The driving ability has always been there for her with her counters and ability to use strength to keep her leverage on drives, but now the jumper is starting to fall with more consistency and its only making the defense’s headache worse. Ishikawa should be gaining some traction this upcoming spring and summer from colleges with how much she’s improved.

Her body awareness is incredible; she always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Natural and fluid with a hint of athleticism. Ayumi has a tone of creatcity and its shown in multiple ways on the court. From an offensive standpoint, she can create angles off her ball handlingto get to the rim, but also displays the vision to make the right play when necessary.
