The Cameron guard has been an integral part of the Comets’ success over the past three seasons. She has thrived in an off-ball role and shot the ball well. Her ability to be a consistent floor spacer and be a zone buster in her part of the state can elevate the ceiling of what her team can be, which is massive. She can space the floor anywhere she plays in her future, which will help her get on the floor wherever she lands.

A year of experience has done Olson well. She’s been a more efficient volume scorer for Cameron and has them in a game on Tuesday that could earn them a share of the Heart O’North Conference. She’s been a shotmaker for the Comets, and her 37% three-point shooting on eight attempts per game keeps defenses on their toes. The Comets have an intriguing balance in their backcourt with Olson and Lexi Kuffel, which will be a challenging team to beat in Sectional 1.

Olson averages 17.7 points per game and shoots 40% from three-point range. She’s ready to shoot from beyond the arc, and her shot is beautiful. She is a serious threat from long range which is demonstrated by multiple games where she made three or more triples, including one game early in the season where she hit seven. When catching the ball, she squares up strong and can attack the rim and finish through contact or pull up for a mid-range shot. She can also effectively bring the ball up the court. Her shifty movements and crossovers consistently create angles to the basket. Additionally, she has shown a strong left-hand finish. I hope to see her take greater advantage of drawing the defense out and beating her defender to the rim more often. With her ability to stretch the floor, she causes significant problems for opposing defenses.

As the go-to option for the Comet offense, Olson did an excellent job making timely shots and helping Cameron win 20 games last season. She was a little streaky in her first season but showed she was comfortable with the volume of shots she took. As she matures and learns where to get her shots, she’ll naturally become more efficient. Anytime a kid is a 14 or 15-year-old and leads a team in scoring, and their team has a 20-win season, you have to take some notice. Olson has a solid trajectory heading into her next three seasons at Cameron.
