Brenley has positional size, provided solid screening, and showed the three-ball as part of her offensive package. While the outside shot provided a scoring option away from the basket, she also showed flashes of putting the rock on the floor and attacking, which is an area she can continue to develop. The next step is establishing a more dependable presence inside while improving her movement and defensive understanding. Her feet were slow, and as she gets quicker her help-side and gap responsibilities will improve. She has a solid inside and out skill set and as she becomes more assertive and dependable as an inside scoring threat her presence on the court this season can be very impactful.

Matthews is a player that continues to impress. Her size and scoring ability allows for her to play inside and outside. Has a quick release from behind the arc but can also get positioning on the block and score. Uses her body to get the defender on her back and can turn and score at any given time. A player that can guard on the perimeter and showed why she is one of the top power forwards in the state. Already holding Division 2 offers, look for her to continue to help her Creekview team compete for another championship.

Brenley looks like a college player now with her height and strength at the forward positions, playing well both inside and out during three versus three competition and when the players got up and down playing five on five. Matthews is one of the best shooters in the state in the “big” category regardless of class and that excellent form and follow through was on display once again on Sunday. The biggest takeaway for me was her ability to put the basketball on the floor and get by big defenders who did not have her quickness and foot speed. Matthews almost converted a really nice spin move driving to the paint with her left hand that would have really been impressive. If she can consistently show the ability to drive the ball, her already high stock will only elevate more. I expect her to have a much bigger role for the defending state champion Creekview Grizzlies in her junior season. She is receiving interest from multiple division two schools and has an offer from in state D2 Shorter University.

Matthews is a player who I started hearing a lot about at the beginning of this past high school season with Creekview. She was like a sprinter busting out of the gates to start the season shooting the basketball at a very high percentage for the eventual state champions. She continued to be a consistent rebounder and scorer for the Lady Grizzlies throughout the season while also continuing to become a very good shot blocker in the paint. At nearly 6′ tall with excellent athleticism, Brenley is a very good prospect for college coaches who utilize the stretch four position on offense. She is very quick which allows her to blow bye bigger, slower defenders on the perimeter and can really get off the ground, allowing her to finish over defenders with relative ease whether it’s from three point range, 10-12 feet, or slashing to the basket. After a very good performance at Shorter Elite Camp, Brenley earned her first college offer this past weekend. with several other division two schools showing serious interest, it will not be her last.

Matthews may have been one of the most polished forwards in attendance. Her footwork is advanced, allowing her to score in the paint with a variety of countermoves, including hooks and turnaround jumpers. She plays with balance and control, finishing with either hand on up-and-under moves. What really elevates her game is her ability to stretch the floor—she shoots the three with confidence, making her an ideal pick-and-pop option. Add in her decision-making and defensive awareness, and it’s easy to see why her stock is climbing quickly.

Stretch forward bangs inside for tough buckets. Opens up the floor with her three-point shot. Athletic, strong frame. Can beat opponents up and down the floor. Will attack off the dribble from the wing. Pick-and-pop threat. Consistent rebounder in traffic.

Forward protects the rim, rebounds and has a well-rounded offensive game. Fluid jump shooter from the mid-range and three-point line. Plays bigger than her size. Can blossom into a mismatch as a combo-forward.

Brenley might not get as much fanfare as other freshmen in the area, but she has a chance to develop into one of the more well-rounded players in Cherokee County. At 5-foot-9, Matthews can play inside and out. She does a nice job rebounding and protecting the rim. On Saturday, it was her fluidity with her jumper that really impressed me. She sank a mid-range jumper and then netted a smooth three-pointer off the catch. Brenley posted 7 points and 4 rebounds. She is an important piece to Creekview’s future.
