About Candela

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a skilled forward with strong shooting and court vision. I create opportunities through accurate passing, spacing, and decision-making. At 6’0”, I use my size to compete on the boards and stay active in the flow of the game. I play with a team-first mindset and make plays that help my team succeed.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I approach the game with a competitive, disciplined, and team-first mindset. I value hard work, consistency, and being coachable. I’m the type of player who stays engaged, accepts feedback, and focuses on improving every day. I take pride in bringing positive energy, resilience, and accountability, and I always try to contribute to the team in whatever way helps us compete and win.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Yes. I am an invited member of the Beta Club at Grayson High School, which recognizes students for academic excellence, leadership, and character. I currently maintain a 3.86 GPA while balancing a demanding schedule of school, basketball, and training. Being part of Beta Club reflects my commitment to discipline, responsibility, and maintaining strong academic standards alongside athletics.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Through basketball and academics, I’ve developed strong teamwork, discipline, and accountability. Playing in competitive team environments has taught me how to communicate, support teammates, and stay focused on collective goals rather than individual success. I lead by example by bringing consistent effort, positive energy, and a strong work ethic to practices, training, and games.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One of the most significant challenges in my life was losing my only brother when I was eight years old. That experience was very difficult and shaped the way I see life and competition. Basketball became an important outlet for me. It helped me stay focused, build resilience, and develop a strong work ethic.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a competitive college program where I can grow as both a student and an athlete. Academically, I value strong standards and an environment that supports personal development. Athletically, I’m interested in a program with a strong team culture, disciplined coaching, and a focus on player development.

There wasn’t a ton of playing time to be had for Benquet against Loganville in a 55-37 win, but she still flashed intrigue. Candela has a strong, sturdy frame. She was vocal on defense when on the floor. She stepped outside to hit a mid-range jumper. I think she could be a difference maker in due time as she gets older and more experience with increased reps.
