Back in July, Whalen received her first offer from Truman College which extended offers to many a SC Fever product at the time. This past week, Whalen would receive her second offer. It would be of the in-state variety courtesy of Denmark Tech. Whalen played an integral role in the Falcons’ run last season to the SCISA 4A semifinals. She was one of only two from the class of 2027 on last season’s Ben Lippen assembling. Whalen competed in 29 of the Falcons’ 30 contests last season while averaging seven rebounds, 6.6 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 steals per matchup. 

Truman College has been doing plenty of scouting of SC Fever prospects and must be impressed with what they are seeing. Whalen was another who secured a recent offer from Truman. She played a major part in what was a banner 2025-26 season for SCISA 4A Ben Lippen. The Falcons concluded its 2025-26 season with a 22-8 record and advanced to last season’s SCISA 4A semifinals. Whalen played in 29 of Ben Lippen’s 30 contests last season. She averaged seven rebounds, 6.6 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 2025-26. Considering what the Falcons could resemble in 2026-27 one could expect those numbers to increase. 

Because of a last-minute scheduling change, Ben Lippen played in the first two contests of Friday’s Chapin Shootout. The second contest went better than the first as Whalen led her Falcons to a victory over the host Eagles. Whalen scored 10 points en route to that victory. Even though youth is the centerpiece of the current Ben Lippen group, Whalen provides a veteran presence as a rising senior – and has the veteran instincts to go alongside her 2027 status. Whalen can give a team productive minutes as either a guard or small forward and is very gifted as a rebounder. 

On a team whose roster is defined by youth, Whalen stands out as the veteran of this season’s version of SCISA 4A Ben Lippen. Whalen primarily operates at the three and has no problems setting up at the wing for a possible 3-point try. Opposing defenses also have to watch out for her when she attacks the rim as she delivers strong finishes at the cup and can get crafty and creative with how she does so as well. Whalen can reject plenty of shots on the defensive side of the floor and that translates to what she gets accomplished as an offensive threat. 

Whalen’s Ben Lippen team was the lone assembling from the SCISA ranks at the Lexington Play Day. She averaged 10.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in her sophomore campaign for the Falcons in 2024-25. At 5-foot-10, she seamlessly fuses together height with length and athleticism. Her offensive versatility is displayed with her ability to attack the basket as well as her willingness to set herself up behind the 3-point line to sink her attempts from deep. Allow her to get an offensive rebound in close proximity to the basket and that is a near-automatic two points for Whalen. She is also more than able to play point and that can mean iso situations – particularly late in games. 

Whalen makes a way to make plays all day. In defensive-minded contests such as Monday morning’s Blue Bracket championship get-together between SCISA 4A Ben Lippen and 2A Eau Claire, every point counts. The 12 that Whalen placed on the scoreboard certainly did in the Falcons’ 36-35 overtime victory over the Shamrocks. Whalen also had the most important bucket of the game – the go-ahead bucket in overtime that put Ben Lippen ahead for good. While Whalen primarily plays as a small forward, she can also give a team productive minutes as a guard. Much of what she gets accomplished is in the painted area between her rebounding and scoring.
