The Albany native is one of the more intriguing talents in Wisconsin’s 2029 class. She’s a rangy 5-11 wing who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she’s at her best when she can get to the basket, and does so in a variety of ways. Butts can attack off the dribble and beat her defender off the dribble, work with her back to the basket against mismatches, and score off offensive rebounds. Defensively, she’s a versatile player who can guard multiple positions on any given possession.
I was impressed by Butts’ performance this summer down in Louisville. The 5-11 wing also has the athletic and physical tools to be an impact defender. I also liked her ability to score around the basket offensively and use her length to score over players around the rim. She has versatility on both sides of the ball and will catch coaches’ attention this winter.
The Southwest Wisconsin native was among the more impressive players in the 2029 class not playing UAA basketball. She’s a rangy player who made plays on both ends of the floor, and she played hard in the half I watched her and her Wisconsin Academy
team play. She has a ways to go before reaching her ceiling, but there was a lot to like. She’s one to watch over the next few years as she develops.
The Albany/Monticello wing was among the most impressive young players I saw today. She played with a talented small-school program and played her role at a high level. However, today I learned more than I have over the past 12 months, which is fun for me. She looked comfortable offensively, scored from all three levels, and stayed composed under pressure. I was most impressed with her ability to get into the paint and score around the basket. I’m eager to see her play with her Wisconsin Academy
team again in this AAU season.
Emersen is a scrappy defender and skilled guard who made a comprehensive impact for Wisconsin Academy 15U at the Great Lakes Kickoff on Saturday. She scored a contested layup off two in the paint, buried a smooth three in the slot, used an effective pivot to create the space needed to hit a contested jumper on the baseline, and was active on the boards. Emersen created steals with her scrappy pressure on the perimeter, dished out assists, and drove hard through the lane to cause fouls. She converted free throws efficiently at the line.
