Grace is a really nice basketball player, and she’s one of my favorites to watch. She plays extremely hard, she’s very physical whether she’s inside or outside, and she has good all-around skill. She can play a wing spot offensively, knock down 3-pointers, attack the basket, or play effectively in the mid-post. Defensively, she is probably best as a ‘4’, but she can defend some wings, I just worry a little about switching onto guards. She is another really nice scholarship candidate who can help someone immediately.
I’ve always enjoyed watching Grace play, and I’m impressed with how much leaner and more mobile she looks this year. She is a versatile forward who can battle inside, rebound, and defend, but she also has some perimeter skill. She can push in transition, knock down a rhythm 3-pointer, and she has good vision and a natural feel for the game. She has really nice length, can defend multiple positions, and I think could be a nice inside-out college recruit.
Typically, you see prospects work tirelessly on their skill so they can move away from the basket, but Grace’s development over her first two years of high school has sort of worked in reverse. Not that she hasn’t worked on her skill, but she has gotten so much stronger and more physical, she has gone from a point forward/wing type of prospect to someone who can now play more consistently in the mid-post and battle/defend inside. Assuming she continues to play around the perimeter like she has in the past, her inside-out versatility could make her a priority forward for some of the better Midwestern small colleges this Fall and next Spring.
When I saw Grace last Spring & Summer, she was this skillful, fluid, and somewhat smooth wing forward. She has gotten much stronger, she’s playing with more physicality and toughness, and she has been good inside the arc this Spring. She still has the perimeter skillset and the ability to affect the game from the wing, but she’s also great in the mid-post, where she can knock down the 15-footer, get to the rim and finish, plus she can defend multiple positions well.
Grace showcased a nice, athletic game on the wing last Summer and Fall, but now she looks even stronger and much more assertive. To be able to combine her skillful wing game with her strength and athleticism, Grace has a really nice future ahead of her. Friday night, she helped her team compete for much of the game against a top-level shoe company program. Expect for her to have a big Junior year.
