Smith’s impact on the game is definitely seen on both ends of the court. Offensively, she can be a major threat from the outside, and she’s one of the more aggressive rim attackers on the floor, no matter who’s on the court. Defensively, she can stay in front of her matchup, and has shown she can protect the paint as a guard as well.

I always find joy in watching Gwen play. What always stands out to me is her body language and that she looks like she is having fun playing the game. She plays whatever role is needed and that role changes often during the game. Her ability to read the court and make the best play at the time is underrated.

Smith has been another name in conversations of players who’ve taken a major leap in their impact on the game. Her IQ is what stands out to me more than her ability to score. She’s a smart player with no ego, always putting the W first. It’s rare to find players who can light up the box score and still find joy in playing a supporting role. A coach’s dream type of player.

LT is one of the best five teams in the state, and Gwen is a major reason why. She can adapt her game to any situation and find ways to be effective. She has sharpened her game in a multitude of ways, and it’s showing this year. On both sides of the ball, she is active, aware, and willing to make the right plays. The potential is there. Coaches need to have this kid on their radar.

Smith has a soft touch around the rim, and she gets there with ease because of how much she moves. Off the screens, or cuts.. Smith will create space for herself or others.

My favorite thing about watching Gwen is that she has been on a steady incline of improvement every time I see her. She improves her play year after year. She is athletic with great body movement on the court. She is going to be a key player on the Lyons team this year.
