A physical guard that does not mind contact. Johnson attacked the paint hard and made plays all weekend. She is strong enough to make buckets and get the old fashioned AND1. Hope will bang inside for rebounds and defend bigger players if necessary. She has a toughness about her that makes her a difficult matchup.
Johnson is a player I have seen in passing over the last couple years, but the last time I saw her, at the Wood Elite Top 50 Earned Not Given showcase in September, I came away very impressed with her game. She has good height and a long wingspan and is a strong, powerful kid who is not afraid of being physical. She is always under control and plays the game at her pace, never letting the defense speed her up. She makes very good decisions with the basketball in her hands, demonstrating a high basketball IQ and good knowledge of the game. Johnson has a chance to really help herself with college coaches playing on that team. This will be the first time she has played on the biggest of stages at Under Armour on one of the top teams on the main courts. I believe that she will perform well and return home with multiple offers and serious interests from schools across the country.
Powerful wing with big-time production—15.1 points, 10.7 boards, 2.2 assists, and 3.4 steals per game. Built to dominate the paint, but agile enough to defend on the perimeter. Attacks the rim with physicality and finishes with craft. Brings toughness to both ends of the floor. Double-double machine who controls the glass and sets the tone defensively.
Up from 52: Power wing put up 15.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game. At her best when attacking the rim and playing 12-feet and in.
Keep an eye on Hope. I really liked what I saw from her at camp. She’s a physically overpowering wing that has the toughness to play around the basket. Johnson is athletic when getting downhill and is a crafty finisher with both hands. She’s impactful on the backboards and aggressive on defense, capable of defending on the perimeter and in the post.
