This kid has done nothing but work her tail off. Putting in countless unforeseen hours in the gym, she has risen and molded herself into a sensational ball player. Her body of work is tremendous as she can score it from multiple spots on the floor. Blessed with size and length, she poses as a threat on both ends of the floor. I enjoyed watching her ability to be aggressive and attack downhill. It was like a freight train moving through the night. Defensively, she got steals, rebounds, and blocked shots. She’s going to be a beast at the next level for sure.

She has matured beyond measures and has elevated her game. This tremendous student-athlete is a hard-working individual who excels on the basketball court. She leads the way, and her leadership turns up a notch every time she steps onto the floor. Defensively, she is a juggernaut, getting hands-on deflections and steals. Offensively, she can score it on all three levels, but finishing at the rim after she left her defender in the dust, she has one of the quickest first steps in the state. Her squad returns to Murfreesboro to capture another gold ball trophy. Look for her to be the leading catalyst in the quest to do so.

The “Basketball Queen” is a 6ft wing who brings passion and love for the game into every contest. Here is another comparison, she’s like the female Kevin Garnett, bringing that boldness of energy into the fold. She can score it on all 3-levels, but it’s the other things such as rebounding and blocking shots that ignite the crowd and gives her team a spark to make a run. She’s a Murray State signee who will take her talents up north. This kid has already won one state title but is looking to add another piece of hardware to the school’s collection.

One of the most consistent prospects in the state, this kid can score from all 3 levels, but is one of the best two-way players that impacts a ballgame. Possesses great size and strength, this kid is hard to handle on a nightly basis. She averaging 16ppg, 7rpg, to go along with 3spg. She is a Murray State signee who will be a big addition to that program. Look for her to help Southside back towards state contention before heading up north of the state line.

The Lady Hawks have reached the Region Championship again, and another substate performance. This time, the future Murray St. Racer had herself a triple-double in the win: 14 points, 12 rebounds, 11 steals, and 5 assists. She.Is.Different.

Jackson Southside is going to be in the conversation at the end of this thing…and Askins is their heart and soul. She averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds on the week shooting nearly 60% from the floor. She plays with a funky rhythm that makes her incredibly hard to stay in front of, and once she get into scoring position, she’s a bucket.

I had my first real opportunity to watch Akins over the Christmas break, and I came away incredibly impressed. She’s a tremendous two way player that is college ready right now (on both ends of the ball). Her block stats aren’t through the roof, but if you watch, you see that her defensive energy also deters a lot of shots…which is really hard to measure. Akins is a total game changer.

Perhaps the hardes thing to do in basketball is score 15-20 points in EVERY game when the defense knows exactly what’s coming. Askins has hit this level. She’s a big time D1 prospect for a reason, and part of it is that she simply can’t be stopped at the high school level. She’s good enough to make this Jackson Southside team a threat to beat anyone.

In their first round matchup vs Morristown-West, Askins was just unstoppable. In the first quarter alone, she scored a quick 10 points on 5 of 5 shooting (all from the midrange). She played with great IQ, understanding how to find the soft spots to get to her mid range. Really skilled post that is very comfortable facing the rim. I was really impressed by her game. They even put the ball in her hands and ran an ISO ball screen for her at the end of the quarter in which she drew a foul and hit both free throws. Finished with 12 points in the first quarter, and 14 points in the first half.
