Jones recently was on hand at William Peace University in North Carolina’s Triangle for its elite camp and departed said camp with an offer from Pacers coach Annalee Bollinger. Jones adds the William Peace offer to a previous one she landed from Allen University during the summer – also following a camp. She trades in the orange and brown of 5A Division 1 Mauldin for the red of 5A Division 2 Greenville. Jones played in 22 games last season for a Mavericks team that finished its 2024-25 campaign with a 16-9 record. She averaged 6.8 points and two steals last season.

Jones was one of two from 5A Division 2 Greenville that recently participated in a prospect camp at Allen University. Yellow Jackets coach Olivia Gaines was impressed with Jones’ performance to where she received an offer. She is an addition to the Red Raiders after transferring from another 5A school in Mauldin of the Division 1 ranks. Jones has also played at the high school level since she was an eighth grader and averaged 6.8 points for a Mavericks team that concluded the 2024-25 campaign with a 16-9 record. Last season’s Greenville version was 5A Division 2 Upper State finalists – expect even more from the Red Raiders with the moves made during this offseason.

Jones’ team she was part of at this year’s Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase put forth a stellar showing and she was one of the main reasons why. She stands at 5-foot-4 and understands the art of drawing contact to get to the free throw line. Jones is a multi-sport athlete whose resume also includes time competing in track and field – those attributes can translate well to the basketball court. Given that her high school team – Mauldin – is the defending 5A state champions in South Carolina, Jones will look to be a key piece in what the Mavericks hope is a successful defense of its crown.

Jazaria Jones was always attacking the basket finding the weaknesses of her opponents. She was playing nice defense on the other end, too, stripping the ball from her opponents and making it difficult for them to get the ball in bounds. In another game, she made a nice cut getting the pass in-bounds and scoring it underneath the basket. Her cuts to get open are so quick making it easy for her to catch the ball, and she did a nice job changing tempo and slowing things down when needed after she got the pass.

Speaking of teams with expectations, one must not look any further than a 5A Mauldin team looking to defend its state crown from last season with a still relatively young core. Jones, in addition to basketball, also partakes in track and field events. Prep Girls Hoops also saw Jones earlier this offseason at the LBI Spring Invitational. Jones has participated on the grassroots circuit with Upward Stars 3SSB. Ball distribution, shiftiness and connecting on 3-pointers are among the strong points to her game. She made her presence known last season as an eighth grader with the 5A state champion Mavericks and she is looking for even more once the 2023-24 season commences.
