Kate turned into the main ball handler for this Pioneers team who had appeared in 3 straight state championship games before this season. Shintaffer did a fantastic job at running the offense, pushing the pace in transition, and finding her post players to play the inside-out game. She knocks down threes off the catch well but is most effective in the pick and roll as she can pick apart defenses and deliver accurate passes to her teammates. She helped lead this Pioneers team to the state tournament, which was impressive with their younger squad.

Kate is a great guard who handles the ball well and does great when she is pressured with tight defense. She plays under-control, picking apart the defense by running the pick and roll smoothly. She gets downhill well with both hands, having elite speed and excellent court vision to see her open teammates.

Nooksack Valley lost their top 2 players from their state championship team but they look like they haven’t missed a step at all. Kate has been a big reason why the team has been a top 1A team this season. She handles the ball well and can play off the ball just as good, being able to get open for easy deep shots or mid-range buckets. She pushes the pace in transition and plays tough defense, being able to guard multiple positions.

Shintaffer has stepped up this season to fill some holes left from talented guards graduating. She’s a combo guard who provides a calming presence with the ball, doesn’t seem to get out of control and feels space for her shots well, especially around the paint. She has a nice stroke out to 3-point too, and does well to stay active, make decisive cuts after passes, fill to space, and help out teammates who get stuck. She also does well defensively to position herself in spots to make plays and has some scrappiness to her game that allows her to get deflections and boards here and there.
