Expert Analysis
Justin Prather | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
#9 – Kayla is 6’0 and one of the best pure Shooters in the state. She shoots the three at a very high level. She has also improved on her mid-range game and scoring around the basket. She is a bucket getter, with size to go with it. Coming off a big state tournament year last year, Lynnwood has a couple that will be back. Both made jumps in the rankings.

How do you think your team and yourself performed throughout this season?rn-My team had a great season, and I couldn’t be more proud. We pushed ourselves in practice and worked hard every day. Many games we were the underdogs, but we showed people that we are here to give them are best. This season was the first time any of us went to not only state, but the Tacoma Dome. Although it sucks we didn’t make it past the first round at the Dome, we never stopped believing in ourselves. This year I had the most fun yet, and I’m sure my teammates feel the same as well.
What was the biggest obstacle you and your team faced this season?rn-Our biggest obstacle had to be pushing through multiple games when we’re down by 15+. Or games that went to double overtime. These games helped us go far this season. It helped us to work together and come back from hard games. It mostly helped us to continue to believe in ourselves.
What do you think you improved most on the court?rn-I think I most improved on my leadership this season. Pushing myself to communicate with my teammates and be the best leader I could be was good for me. Not just on the court, but off it as well. I went to support upcoming Lynnwood stars through the season and took a role model role for them as well.
What are you looking to improve before next season?rn-I am looking to continue to improve my aggressiveness and confidence on the court. Teams know how I play because I’m going to be a senior next year, so I’m going to mix it up more. I’m going to do this by improving all aspects of the game. Ball handling, contact finishing, driving, outside shooting, quick feet, defense and most importantly confidence so I can show out all these aspects I’ve been putting work in for.
Who are some teammates that you think stood out this season? Who are some teammates who could have breakout years next year in your eyes?rn-A teammate I can always count on is
Aniya Hooker

. She brings positive energy and hard work to the team every day. A player who could have a breakout year is Dina Yonas. With the hopes she stays healthy with no injuries, she can have a great year ahead of her. She’s always willing to put in extra work and be the best player she can be.

You can’t ignore her size and length on the perimeter, especially when she knocks down shots from all over the floor. At 6’0, she is one of the best shooters in the state. She has some sweet moves in the paint as well. Lynwood is a team that will be dangerous next season with Hooker and Lorenz back from the state tournament qualifying team.

Kayla is teammates with Aniya during the high school season. A two time 1st team all league selection. She is your shooter to compliment her backcourt mates attacking style. She also has good footwork and gets points in the paint with it, often in creative ways. She had some big scoring games, including a 31 point effort vs Archbishop Murphy and was consistently around or above 20. She has great length for a perimeter shooter and shoots the three at a high percentage. Both are bucket getters, look out for Lynwood next season with these two.

I do not have her season stats but I have watched her play in person. I saw a great shooter who could make shots from all over the floor. She also has good size and length that allows her to play bigger if she needs to. I would be willing to bet she is among the top three point threats stats wise.

She is a 6’0 shooting guard or stretch three. She is an elite level shooter at that size. Something you see more of now than ever. Although she might be one of the best shooters for her size in the state, even in today’s game making her one of those versatile players with lots of size who is a factor from anywhere on the floor. She makes a ton of threes and she shoots them at a high percentage. Ranked 25th , she is a potential rankings riser in the future and has the stats to prove it.

Kayla is a great player on the court who has grown a lot over the coarse of the season. She attacks the ball nicely and hits mid-range shots efficiently. Against Archbishop-Murphy she dropped 31 points on the night. She was finding her spots nicely and finishing at the rim nicely.
