Expert Analysis
Sam Duren | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Quick lead guard, looks to create advantages for her teammates with long passes in transition or driving and creating. Plays head up, aware basketball with good court vision. Quality three point and mid-range shooter. Great energy on defense, picking up at half court and getting underneath offensive players with quickness and leverage. Also smart with quick hands to force turnovers when the situation calls for it. Will be a productive player this winter.

Purcell’s speedy point guard was also a key player in their State Runner-Up finish in 4A softball. In doing some film study on Kenna, I noticed the Purcell student section typically holding up their “3” fingers as soon as the ball was swung to her side. Is capable of hitting 5-7 threes in any given game. Great live ball skills and passing, everything you’d want in a point guard.

A quick guard that has great handles and change of directions when breaking a press. Footwork and hands ready not needing much space to knock down the outside shot. Great vision off the dribble reading the second level of defense making the correct pass. Pressure defense is where her quickness happens as does a great job of defending the passing lanes for the steal. Kenna is a guard that can play at the next level. Kenna followed up her MVP of the Madill Winter Classic performance from last season with… well, another MVP of the Madill Winter Classic. This time as a junior. She’s HER, y’all. Esparza had 19 in the championship with three three-pointers. More than that, she facilitated the Dragons offense and was instrumental in every part of her team’s offense. She is a confident ball-handler who never gets rattled. She can be counted on to protect the ball and does not ever make life easy on the other team, offensively and especially not defensively. Kenna holds an offer from Barclay College, but mostly definitely deserves more, including Division-II interest.
