Expert Analysis

Cooper, who recently joined the 1,000 point scorers club, wasted little time in the championship game making an impact. She got a steal early and was able to go coast to coast and score on a contested layup a couple minutes into the game. Cooper used her quickness and ball handling to penetrate the defense all game long, get into the paint, and then scored with her left hand on several nice finishes in traffic. Cooper also showed the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter. Kennedie has continued her exceptional play from Maynard Jackson high school where she started her career.

Cooper was a blur with the ball often during the game, pushing the ball out with her dominant left hand and blowing by defenders in Lakeview’s press. She showed good decision-making after the initial wave of pressure and was able to get into the heart of the defense to score herself or kick out to open shooters from the perimeter. Cooper flashed the ball handling ability a couple times, once on the break she stopped, hit the defender with a hesitation move, and then blew by her, switched the ball to her weaker right hand and finished off the glass. Cooper’s quickness was also evident on a very nice backdoor cut where she left the defender like a statue on the wing and another where she stole the ball and went coast to coast for an easy layup.

Kennedie is a bucket getter. The KIPP Atlanta transfer has a smooth release on her jumper, able to get to her three-ball off the dribble. She sank four threes, showcasing deep range with the ability to shoot over screens. Cooper totaled 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Expect Cooper to explode next season as a scorer with more shots likely to come her way.
