Maliyiah Mason
About Maliyiah
Expert Analysis
Bret Swanson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Mason finishes her career with the Lady War Eagles with a Class 2A State Championship. Maliyiah finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds in the victory over Bishop England. Mason missed most of her junior season with an injury and eventually got back on the floor this season.
Maliyiah can step out and faceup from time to time on the floor. She seems to be most effective at times bullying defenders down on the block and playing with a relentless attitude.

Mason is back and back with a vengeance. With the A’ja Wilson Elite product having returned for her senior season, Gray Collegiate is poised to put the rest of the 2A landscape on notice as one of its teams to beat. Mason stands at an even six feet and displays her versatility as a veteran talent who can play either at the three, four or five. As potent a scorer as she is near the rim, she also excels as a rebounder and puts herself in position to corral plenty of steals. There is a reason why she was offered by Dawn Staley and South Carolina when she was a freshman at Irmo.

Mason is finally getting back to playing after going down with an injury back in December 2021. Maliyiah and her Lady War Eagles teammates could be some stiff competition for the Keenan HS Lady Raiders. Mason when healthy was extremely active down in the paint and a workhorse with her ability to finish around the cup. Mason will wait for the springtime to make a college decision she told recently Prep Girls Hoops.

Mason has been on the comeback trail she she suffered an injury in late 2021. Who knows how Gray Collegiate’s 2021-22 would have gone if they had a fully healthy Mason from start to finish. She is back and looking to make up for lost time. She stands at an even six feet and typically plays as a small forward. One may have forgotten about Mason because of her injury with the War Eagles, but in her final season with 4A Irmo, she averaged a double-double with 17.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. When she is on the court, she is among the state’s best and that is the plan for Mason and first-year coach Brandon Wallace.

Maliyiah went down with an injury back in December 2021 at the Cardinal Newman Showcase. Mason is back for the Lady War Eagles and new Head Coach Brandon Wallace. She sure does bring a toughness and athletic frame to the paint for the Lady War Eagles. Maliyiah really plays the game with great motor and nose for the ball. She will be a welcome addition back to this lineup come this season.
