Zurliene was key for Mater Dei’s state title a couple of seasons back, and when you watch her play, it’s not hard to understand why. She’s lengthy, active, and plays with a sense of pace and confidence. On both sides of the ball, she uses her size to her advantage. She’s crafty but not out of control. Players with length and a versatile skill set tend to align with most college schemes.

Mater Dei Catholic is a dominant offense with a lot of back door cutting. Zurliene led her team with 16 points in a big win over Pinckneyville. 10 of those points came in the first quarter where she hit two 3-pointers. She looked comfortable with the ball in her hands. She hit the boards hard in the first half pulling down five rebounds and getting two buckets off of rebounds.

An impactful player and a Class 2a state champion. The kid can do just about everything you need out of a player. Athletic, versatile, and engaged. Maris is the utility piece for any type of program. Her natural skill allows her to adapt to any type of situation. All of these are key components to a player who can develop quickly, I see Zurliene taking another huge step this summer with the SI Hawks.

Maris Zurleine, the 6’0”sophomore, was a key contributor to the 2A Championship team this year. Smooth is the word that comes to mind when I watch her play. She plays way above her age level. Her length contributes to her attacking, stealing and rebounding. Her speed allows her to cover the court and use whichever skill is needed at the time.
