About Meredith

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Im the type of player who can do it all on the court. Score, defend, get a steal, get the ball down court for an assist, or dive for a loose ball. I think of myself as one who can turn a game around. I bring energy when needed and feel that assists are just as important as buckets. I think I bring a lot to teams, including calm under pressure. Im a great listener and am not afraid to be coached.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Im the ultimate teammate. Not at all selfish and always there when you are down. Im the baby on my varsity high school team, but no one would even know it. I love playing a team game, and as much as I like having the ball in my hands, I’m just as content following the play and getting the ball to the best spot on the court. I’m mentally tough and play unselfishly. I want the win, period.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a part of the Augustine Youth Ministry at Providence Catholic, which this first year has been insightful. My biggest non sports honor sofar freshman year has been getting straight As in school and being named to the Honor Roll.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Im the only freshman on my varsity team, so I still have leadership to work on. I hope that over the next few years, I’ll ultimately be that team leader, and hopefully captain, as others come up behind me. With respect to my role, coming off of an AAU season where I was one of the top players, I have certainly learned how to be a team player. Teamwork at this level is a must, WE not ME.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Being a varsity freshman has been challenging. I’m 14yo, and I know my mind is different than a 17 or 18yo. I can play hard against them all, but I know I have a lot to learn which will come with maturity. I’ve had some amazing roll models at my school, but being young has been a challenge, for sure.

What type of college are you looking for?

One that enjoys “me”. I want a place that is happy to have me there, that is most important to me. I’m looking for a school that can prepare me for a career in Athletic Training, so hoping they have either an AT major or exercise science program. Hoping for a school with decent athletics as well, with hopes that I can at some point, become involved.

LaMonte plays the game with a strong sense of feel to the game, especially when she slides into the point guard position. She shows the IQ of when to lead the pass, or when to throw it on a dime. From a scoring standpoint, she can get to the rim in a few moves, and seems to have a good sense of how to finish over the bigs or around.

LaMonte’s defense will be key to her being impactful when she gets those varsity minutes. She’s a scrappy player who isn’t afraid to dive headfirst into the mix. She can contest on the perimeter and cause second thoughts on the drive. Offensively, she can stretch beyond the three and can use some speed to finish at the rim.
