Payton was selected as the Gaylord Herald Times Girls Basketball POTY as a junior and she’s off to a stellar start for Gaylord St. Mary’s as a senior. Payton caught my attention with HB Elite in the spring and her dual-threat scoring ability stood out again at the Big North Shootout. She drives hard to the hoop for layups and has a dangerous stroke from three-point distance. Payton reached 1,000 career points in December and the Snowbirds are off to a 7-1 start.

Payton grabbed my attention at a tournament with HB Elite in the spring, and she turned in an impressive performance with her high school squad at the Big North Shootout. Her length and versatility as a scorer immediately stand out on the court. Payton penetrates the defense with her dribble to score layups and steps outside to bury three-pointers. She protects the rim as a shot blocker, finishes well with both hands, and has a variety of dribble moves in her toolbox. Payton will be a tough matchup this winter and is one of the reasons why Gaylord St. Mary’s has a chance to make a deep playoff run.

Payton is a lanky wing/forward from Gaylord St. Mary’s who showcased her playmaking abilities at the Big North Shootout. She covers ground quickly with her long strides and has mobility that makes her a difficult defensive matchup for opposing forwards. Payton attacked the baseline to score an and-one layup through contact and used a nifty spin dribble to score another layup with her left hand. Payton is a threat from beyond the arc, and she protected the rim by making an athletic block in transition.
