Expert Analysis
Terry Drake | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Piperis a quick first-step PG who can create her own offense while getting teammates involved. Her burst generates paint touches, and she showed the ability to get a shot off the bounce or make a play for someone else. The three-ball adds another option to her attack, making her more than a guard who needs to get downhill to threaten the defense. She can initiate the offense, and her vocal presence defensively adds a communication element to her floor game. Her development centers on turning her initial advantage into sound decisions. Recognizing the second line of defense earlier and varying her pace would help her determine when to score, deliver the pass, or keep the possession moving. Adding functional strength is also important for protecting the rock and maintaining balance through contact. Piper has the creation tools to handle lead-guard responsibilities; greater strength and more precise reads will help her maximize them.

I am not sure how much taller Piper is going to get, I assume that she will, so what her true position may still be unknown as she is only in eighth grade. Skill wise, however, she is far past the vast majority of her contemporaries. At the three versus three station in session one, Piper knocked down two three-point shots and then scored again on the interior almost as soon as the event began. That few minutes would prove to be a sample of what the was coming from Seraphine the duration of the day. Piper handled the basketball like a point guard and initiated her team’s offense quite a bit. When given the time and space, Seraphine did not hesitate to let her shot go and the ball went through the net more times than not. Some shots were from NBA range which was quite impressive for a kid who hasn’t entered high school as a student yet. The shooting display was not the only part of her game that stood out as Piper handled the ball with the calm and composure of a much older player against pressure. She is long, very talented, and did not lack confidence competing against much older kids. I am glad I saw her play when I did because she has the chance to be at the top of her class in Tennessee.
