Raegan is the first person I thought of when putting this story together. The victim of it just basically being too hard for a team to get 3 All-Staters when there are only ten spots. Raegan was named to the Oklahoman’s Big All-City first team, and was a nominee for Sports Illustrated National Athlete of the Week after her 30 point outburst in the State Finals. A key part of two straight State Championship teams, the talented guard averaged 14 a game this season, and will be taking her talents to Friends University next season.

The second part of El Reno’s two headed monster. Bugaj was too fast, too in control and actually made light work of the Booker T Washington press. An absolute gamer. Briefly left the game late in the third with a leg injury, shook it off and helped her Lady Indians close out their second straight Class 5A State Championship. For good measure she drained the free throws down the stretch, leaving no doubt and giving her 30 points! 17-18 shooting from the line, with 6-10 from the field. What a way to cap an outstanding high school career.

There was a stretch in a recent loss to Mustang where Bugaj went takeover mode. Rattling off points in transition, forcing steals, slashing to the rim, dropping dimes. It was a preview of what was to come for the senior. In El Reno’s biggest moment so far this season, she was an unstoppable star. To start the fourth quarter, she had a “give me that” steal. Then was off to the races. She scored at the rim, drilled a corner three and changed the game.
Senior urgency defines playoff runs. With one State Title already on her resume, Bugaj will leave it all on the court in attempting to go back to back. Her defensive tenacity, shiftiness while driving and clutch perimeter shooting will all be key factors in the Lady Indians’ title push.

While the loss to Mustang had to sting, it was still a good playoff primer and tune up for Bugaj. She had a takeover stretch in the third quarter, where her quickness and tight handle carved up Mustang in the halfcourt and transition. Outstanding vision, mixed with skilled finishing. Made some great passes, especially in transition. She’ll often be the shortest player on the court during this playoff run, but her energy and skill make the Friends signee the heartbeat for the Lady Indians.

After a junior season as a sharpshooter, Bugaj is expected to be on the ball more for the defending 5A champs. Which based on this summer is a role she should thrive in. Great basketball IQ and feel are clear in her game. Good handle and valuing of the ball. Her threat as a three point shooter should open up lanes for herself and her teammates. Has the feel of a “gamer” type guard, who simply finds way to get it done.

Raegan Bugai play has been a huge part of the Lady Indians success over the past few years. A point guard that has just as much fun making a sweet pass as she does hitting a long long 3 point shot. High IQ player that knows the game of basketball is what she is going to bring at the PG spot. When I watch her play what stands out is this young lady loves the gym and loves to compete.

Raegan is a up tempo PG that makes very sound decisions. She does an excellent job of pushing the ball 94 making good decisions on when she has it or not. Talk about a point guard that loves making assists you can see it in her eyes that the set up is coming. A player that loves to play the game that always has a smile while playing. Outstanding deep range from beyond the arch. At 5’3 she knows how to use her body when driving keeping it between her defender and the goal resulting in a foul. Excellent handles int he open floor changing her speed making it tough to lock down on.
On defense she is a ball hawk making things happen for her team. Quick hands that always seem to get on the ball with a steal or deflection

When watching Bugaj this past season for El Reno, she was more of an off ball threat who picked her spots. With the Aces on Sunday morning, it was a better display of her floor general traits. She got her team into sets, while also being able to navigate through the defense. On drives she stays controlled and gets deep into the paint (where she’s a solid finisher), forcing the defense to commit. Which then allows her to slip tight angle passes to teammates around the rim or kick it out to open shooters. With the graduation of El Reno’s previous lead guard, it was a good preview to see Bugaji excel at controlling the game like she will this winter.

When I think of Raegan I think of a winning PG that during her time will have left a impact at her high school program., An excellent 3 point shooter with amazing range. Great handles that can change directions with a hesi or quick crossover. She has amazing vision in transition that can throw 50 feet on a rope to a rim runner. At the PG spot she has a very high IQ for the game. Raegan has gotten some interest form several school and couple offers. A winner on the court, high IQ and loves the game of basketball.

The El Reno sharpshooter is currently running with the Oklahoma Aces as part of her busy grassroots spring. She’s fresh off the heels of a very successful junior campaign as an offensive weapon for the undefeated Class 5A State Champions Lady Indians. Bugaj is a very effective at providing gravity for her post players as a spot up threat that needs to be accounted for. But there’s also instances of her doing more off the dribble, pull ups and drives. Those are good hints at how her game will evolve as she steps into a bigger role, with hopes to keep the winning tradition going in El Reno.
