Whenever a team plays Greer, the game plan has to include a way to keep its most effective point-getter in check. That was a chore – and then some – for 3A Christ Church’s defense. Moody’s 4A Greer team completed a 50-29 rout of the Cavaliers and Moody spearheaded the Yellow Jackets’ swarming attack with 21 points. It was in the second half of play where Moody did the lion’s (or should we say Jackets) share of her damage to truly put the game away. She knows how to turn defense into offense and efficiently utilizes her speed, vision and veteran instincts to make plays on both ends of the floor. Oh – she is still unsigned.

If it is a Greer contest, one can count on the 4A Yellow Jackets’ resident star guard to put up big numbers. She did so again in Greer’s victory over 2A Fairfield Central. She had 19 points as the Yellow Jackets dispatched the Griffins by a score of 52-43 to advance to Monday’s Gold Bracket championship game against another 4A combatant in Southside. Moody not only has superb ball handling skills, but fuses those together with speed and quickness which makes her a particularly tough out for a defender. Moody also plays strong lockdown defense and will draw contact to get to the free throw line. Two words. Unsigned. Senior.

An often-repeated adage whenever someone has a big game is that she may not have needed to score all those points. In the case of Moody, she did. Greer’s margin of victory on Friday over Midland Valley was only one – 33-32 – and Moody placed 22 of the Yellow Jackets’ 33 points on the board. As those who have watched Moody over the years know, she brings it on both ends of the floor. Her speed and quickness particularly makes her dangerous when she attacks the basket. Her defense creates offense and she has no issues drawing contact to find her way to the free throw line.

Moody’s Greer team had an unusually rough game against 5A Chapin. The matchup resulted in a 65-39 rout of the Yellow Jackets, but the veteran Moody proved herself to be a bright spot for the black and gold. Moody spearheaded the efforts of 4A Greer with a 17-point effort. Listed at 5-foot-4, Moody displays an ability to put points on the board from all three levels. Even when the game was virtually out of reach for the Yellow Jackets, Moody still managed to keep playing hard and not taking a play off. Greer made three 3-pointers throughout the course of Saturday’s game – two of them departed from Moody’s hands.

Moody was in her mood on Friday morning against last season’s 1A state runner up in Denmark-Olar. The talented junior guard for the 4A Yellow Jackets concluded her day at White Knoll HS with a 20-point outing to lead Greer to a 44-33 victory over the Vikings. Denmark-Olar’s defense had little to no answers for Moody as the veteran displayed she can score at all three levels. Another aspect to Moody’s game that leaves opposing defenses guessing is how quick she is with the ball in her hand and how fast she can get from one end of the floor to the other.

Moody a point guard does a nice job of surveying the landscape and finding the open teammate on the floor. She keeps the ball low to the ground and always seems to be under control. On the season she’s averaging 10.9 ppg, 3 steals and 2.3 assists for the Lady Yellow Jackets (17-6). Samore plays the game with fearless mindset at times and plays mature for her age on the court.

Arguably the most entertaining game of the seven-game slate that took place was between a pair of solid 4A squads in Greer and Lancaster. The Yellow Jackets picked up the win by a final score of 64-60 and Moody spearheaded Greer’s efforts with a 15-point outing. One of Moody’s many strong areas is the ability to draw contact and take her chances at the free throw line. Out of the 15 she tallied, seven came via free throws. The 5-foot-2 guard is also a defensive anchor as well as her ability to collect steals can give her team additional possessions.
