Simmie Colson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
#76 up from #83
Jones closes out her high school year like the first impression she gave me, with a bang. Her countless awards and accolades took me back to her middle school days when I saw the potential and sort of knew what was coming yet peep this, over 6’0 and “long and athletic” coupled with her mindset, next-level, be ready because she will be

Jones has given me something new every time I saw her after losing track of her years ago and to see her “on the court” progression showed me she continues to work so during the July viewing period, she kept plenty of college coaches glued to their seats see evaluation here

Jones gave me an eyeful when I finally caught up with her after not seeing her much since middle school and what she showed was enough to be added to the Top 100 on the last update. Guess what, she had both eyes wide open and will be making a major jump on the next update, and here’s why. Yeah, she’s long and athletic, you know what that means, and stands above “the magic number” so that in itself is an attraction for next-level coaches yet she punished inside the paint, on both ends, scoring after contact and BATTLING for everything off the rim. Just as important was timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect shots as well as her court vision and defense

Jones is “long and athletic” and please remember that is the base. I hadn’t seen her since middle school, only caught bits and pieces online of her tearing it up in high school so when I caught up with her playing with the Houston Dream , I just smiled. She showed how fluid she was in not only blocking shots but also defending outside the paint. She also did a good job on the interior defending, scored around the basket as well as the short jumper, and rebounded on both ends

Jones falls into that “long and athletic” category and although I hadn’t seen her since she was a pre-teen, I knew the potential was there. She gets the cover photo because she was hard to cover throughout the event and watching her elevate over defenders to score had me smiling. She showed good timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots, she played the passing lane, she scored off the dribble and she hit the boards, on both ends. Guess what else, she makes her Top 100 debut in July
