Sofia picked the right time to score 21 points as I was watching the Union County game for a few minutes with Basketball Bob Corwin. He asked who is any good in this game and she was one of the first names out of my mouth. Seconds later Sofia hit a deep, pull up three and a few trips later got to the basket and scored in traffic, making me look like I know what I am talking about. Thanks Sofia! That two point score was her only one of the game as the rest of her scoring came off of excellent shooting from three point range where she buried five shots. Pihera had a similar performance at Peach Games where she simply refused to let her team lose, like this contest where St. Pius kicked off Union County 55-50 in a pretty big upset. She also had another huge game scoring the ball with 24 points in a 44-36 win over Mill Creek, where she hit six shots from three point range. She is not only the point guard, but also the quarterback on the flag football team, and an excellent soccer player. She has told me that her dream and goal is to play basketball in college. Coaches from NAIA to Division Two should be evaluating her as she will be a very good player in college for someone.

Sofia is another player I had heard a lot about, but had not seen in person before the ball tipped in her game tonight. IT didn’t take long to realize that she was clearly the best player on either team on the court. Her scoring did not get going until the second quarter, but she was excellent getting through pressure and dropping dimes to her teammates, specifically Heidi Beck Heidi Beck 6'0" | C St. Pius X | 2027 State GA in the post. Pihera was also excellent on defense creating steals and causing deflections with her length. When she did start scoring it was from everywhere on the court- at the rim, pull ups and floaters from the midrange, and Sofia also buried multiple shots from three point range. She is also a very talented flag football player for St. Pius and you can see her vision translate from one sport to the other. When I asked her after the game, she said she was 100% basketball after high school and has a very strong drive to do so. With several college coaches in attendance at the event, that dream should become a reality sooner rather than later for Pihera.

Sofia’s court vision and playmaking elevate those around her. Pihera uses her strength to get a step on defenders. She’s a keen decision maker upon leaping in the air, often times to dump off to an open teammate. Expect Pihera to be among the assist leaders in Class 4A.

Sofia dissected the defense with her passing. Pihera excels at pitch ahead passes in transition which spark easy baskets. When she attacks off the dribble in the halfcourt, she leaps in the air to make athletic passes on the money. Sofia is strong with the ball and sees play develop before others can. She finished with 13 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists and 4 steals vs. Union Grove.

Pihera is a player that knows how to be in the right spots at all times. A player that can light it up from behind the arc but also get out in transition for easy scoring opportunities. High IQ player.
