Sophia has given her heart and soul to Loara High since her arrival as a freshman. Rarely do you see a 5’6 guard who dominates the boards on a nightly basis. 23 games of double digit rebounds on the year, including 22 rebounds vs. Garden Grove and 25 rebounds vs. Estancia! Rangel took quite the leap between her freshman and sophomore seasons, improving her scoring from 9.1 points to 19.1 points per game. Rangel’s offseason improvements played a huge role in the Saxons finishing 20-9 (10-0 in league play) this past season, after finishing 6-20 the year prior. Despite being 5’6, Rangel rebounds great for a guard, averaging 10.3 rebounds last season. Rangel moves great without the ball, knowing when to backdoor cut when her defender is overplaying or caught off guard. Rangel is aggressive when attacking the rim, getting to the line an impressive seven times a game. She also has a solid floater and mid-range game that she knows to utilize when the paint is congested.

Sophia checks all the boxes as an elite combo guard. In a very competitive Southern California region, she averaged 19 PPG and was consistent throughout her sophomore year. Sophia finishes well with contact and can create off the dribble for herself and others. Exceptional shot creation and the ability to draw fouls makes her hard to guard 1v1. Sophia is more than a scorer and contributes to winning in various ways. She led her team in rebounding with over 10 a game, also leading in steals. Sophia was ranked as a sophomore for a reason, so expect her to rise up the ranks even more following her junior season.
