Expert Analysis
Brandon Bradley | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Sophie started to emerge last Spring when she played for a 17U team and at times was their best player on the floor. She is definitely a high-motor, energetic, competitive young lady who will go to battle each time out. But she also has nice skill, an understanding of the game, and the ability to make shots at all levels. I’m not sure if you call her a power guard or a power wing, but either way she is going to be physical, rebound, and defend inside or out. She could get a little quicker defending the ball, but again, no one is going to just beat her off the bounce, because she’ll use her physicality.

When I saw Sophie earlier this Spring, she stood out because she was playing “up” two age groups and finding different ways to be productive. She is a strong, tough-nosed, hard-working wing who plays “older” than she is. She is a strong North/South attacker, she can knock down the occasional jumper, plus she will get inside and rebound her position. Defensively, she is active and aggressive, so once she understands angles and balance a little better, she’ll be that much more frustrating to play against.

I first saw Sophie in Hamilton, Ohio, back in April, and she stood out when I thought she was a 2024. Finding out how young she is, she could be a real playmaker for her high school for the next three years. She has a solid to strong frame, she’s tough and somewhat physical, but she also possesses good balance, some athleticism, and the ability to get inside and finish in traffic. I really like her nonstop motor as well, and she will get after it defensively. I don’t know how much more she will grow, but if she can continue tightening her skillset, she could become a high-level, sought after, small college prospect.

This was my first time seeing Sophie at length, and she played well in what I was able to see. She has a fairly strong frame for her age, she plays with a really nice motor, and she seems like a physical kid who doesn’t mind contact or making toughness types of plays. She showed some ball skill and the ability to knock down the occasional jumper, but as she develops her game, those should improve through repetition. All-in-all, she held her own against the 17U competition she played against.
