About Tess
Expert Analysis
Grant McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Nygaard’s day provided a good example of the adjustment a showcase often requires. Accustomed to being one of the dominant players on the floor, the 5’8 guard from Benson found herself swimming in a much deeper pool. That can make it difficult to find your role and show what you are capable of. The good news? She adapted. Nygaard became increasingly comfortable as the day progressed, finding her turn as a primary ball handler and demonstrating the many impressive aspects of her game. Tess can navigate tight seams, knock down shots from beyond the arc and rebounds really well for her size. She averaged nearly 15 points per game last winter and produced several explosive performances, including a 30-point half against Dawson-Boyd. She was one of the primary reason Benson won 15 games after nearly folding the program the year before due to a lack of players.

Nygaard stayed active throughout the Showcase, putting her versatile skill set on full display. She used her slight frame to slip through cracks in the defense and finish at the rim, while also showing the ability to knock down shots from both midrange and beyond the arc when given the opportunity. Her constant movement kept the defense honest and extended possessions, creating chances for herself and her teammates. Nygaard is definitely trending in the right direction.
