The Lady Knights are coming off an 18-8 season, and they look for even more success this time around in Coach Mark Pixley’s fifth season at the helm. The Knights have really good balance, and they are seemingly similar in size, length, and fluidity at just about every position. Below, I’ve taken the time to highlight five players who stood out to me during my time there. Bishop Luers opens their season this Saturday, as they head to Central Noble to take on the defending Class 2A State Champs in their own home opener. It should be an exciting environment.
Junior Guard Lydia Reimbold
Lydia Reimbold, 2020, 5-9 G
Lydia is a long and fluid guard who does a little of everything well. She can act as their primary ball-handler and run offense, she is a very good perimeter shooter, and she can attack the basket straight-line and make plays around the basket. Defensively, she poses a lot of problems with her length and instincts, especially off the ball in the passing lanes. She looks noticeably stronger, and she’s primed to have a really good Junior year. She is a regular on the grassroots circuit, and she has drawn widespread college interest so far.
Kennedy Glenn, 2020, 5-11 F
This was my first time seeing Kennedy at length, and she’s very intriguing. She is their tallest player, so unfortunately she spends a lot of time defending the interior. In actuality, she’s probably more of a wing or face-up forward offensively. She has really good length, solid fluidity in all directions, and she’s a capable perimeter shooter. She still looks like strength would really help her game, but she’s a kid who could make a jump this season and be an impact player for the Knights. She should begin to draw some nice small college interest with a consistent Junior year.
Delaney Bailey, 2021, 5-8 W
Delaney is a kid who transferred in from Homestead last season between semesters. She actually still needs to play JV until after the first semester this season before she gains full eligibility, but she was able to participate in the scrimmage. She is a strong and physical wing with a good motor. She can handle it some, attack the basket off the dribble, knock down the occasional perimeter jumper, or even post smaller defenders inside. Once she returns, her strength and versatility should really boost this lineup and help Luers be just that much deeper.
Sophomore Guard Janaiya Bright
Janaiya Bright, 2021, 5-4 G
This was my first time seeing Janaiya, and she has some athletic tools for sure. She is a fairly strong kid for her size, and she possesses good speed & quickness. She has decent length as well, and she’s tremendously active defensively. She does gamble a little bit at both ends of the floor, so once she starts to be more efficient, she could really be a factor for the Knights, because she’s just a different type of athlete than most of her teammates. She might be their best on-ball defender and should be able to consistently help in that capacity.
Anna Parent, 2022, 5-8 W
Before the scrimmage started, it was suggested to me to check out Anna’s game. She is a wiry strong, fluidly athletic wing guard who has a lot of upside. She can handle it a little, she has nice-looking mechanics on her jump-shot, and she plays with a good motor. She definitely has the look of a ballplayer, and as she adjusts to the speed and size of the Varsity game, she could be a real contributor sooner rather than later. I won’t go as far as to say she’s a no-brain Division-I prospect yet, but she definitely looks like she’ll be able to play on scholarship after high school.
