A two-time all-conference selection, Armock is in the top five on the all-time Sparta scoring list with one year of high school ball remaining. Armock led the Spartans with 11 points and 4 steals per game. Armock (5-4) was also third on the team in rebounds with 4.5 per game and gets the job done in the classroom with a 3.82 grade-point average. Delany is a very tough defender who doesn’t shy away from getting physical. She can also attack the basket and isn’t afraid of contact. Armock plays for MBA on the AAU curcuit.
“Delaney is one of the best defenders I’ve ever been able to coach,” said Sparta coach Matt McCallum. “She puts pressure on point guards that is overwhelming and causes many turnovers. Delaney is also a deadly 3-point shooter and can drive to the basket and finish.”
McKENNA BENT (5’6 Jr. F) – Comstock Park
Bent was a catalyst from her guard spot for a Panther team that won 19 games, along with conference and district titles last year. Bent led the Panthers in scoring with 11.8 points per game. A two-time all-conference player with plenty of versatility, she added 4.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.
Bent is also a very good mid-range shooter. She has good mechanics and distributes the ball effectively to all teammates. She also plays for the West Michigan Drive AAU basketball and is always working on her game. She also has excellent on-ball defensive skills.
“McKenna was the vocal and emotional leader of our team,” said Comstock Park coach Beth Hull. McKenna saw a lot of different defenses that focused on her and she became a great distributor, in addition to her scoring abilities.”
MIA VANDENBERG – (6’0 Jr. G) – Sparta
A team captain as a sophomore last year, Vandenberg earned all-conference honors in her second season on the varsity. A 6-foot guard, Vandenberg averaged 10 points per game and led the team with 5 rebounds per game. She has totaled over 100 rebounds in both her first two seasons on the varsity. She is a great ball-handler and has good speed and quickness. She is also very level-headed and is pretty calm in pressure situations. A strong rebounder who uses her basketball I.Q to enforce her will on competitors.
“Mia loves the game of basketball and soaks in everything her coaches help her with,” said Sparta coach Matt McCallum. “I challenged her to become a better shooter, and this year she became deadly from anywhere on the floor.”
CARA VANKEMPEN (6’0 Sr. G) – Coopersville
Committed to play at Valpraiso next year, this 6-foot senior guard provides plenty of versatility. “Cara’s success is a direct result from her passion, commitment, and work ethic,” said Coopersville coach Eric Lillibridge. “Cara is a great shooter, a very strong scorer, and improving defender. She is a great player with a high basketball IQ and skill level, and I am excited to see what her senior season brings.”
