SubscribeA final score that doesn’t tell the whole story, Zionsville took the win over Western Boone 40-37. Coming into the game I knew that the game would depend on how Western Boone’s guards played. Zionsville has a ton of height and really destroyed Western Boone down low. Senior star Madison Jones had an off game for Western Boone and that really put the nail in the coffin for them. My evaluations from the game are below.
Western Boone
Madison Jones – 5’7 G – 2019
Jones seemed to be just a little flustered with the speed and length of Zionsville. She isn’t used to playing teams with the height and she struggled because of it. Missed a couple shots that she usually will make as well. Other than scoring the ball, she performed well. She passed it well and had really quick hands to the basketball. She was all over the floor for Western Boone. She’s committed to Davenport where she will be a contributor in year one. – 10 points, 4 assists, 3 steals
Lauryn Florey – 5’10 W – 2020
Florey was a nice surprise in this one. You can tell that she is a bit raw still, but has good game. She is shifty and can get the ball up to the rim on the drive. Solid rebounder from the wing spot and could develop into a player that gets picked up by a smaller school. She has the potential to be a really solid contributor at the next level if she develops like I think she can. – 8 points, 5 rebounds
Kara Brewer – 5’6 SG – 2020
Brewer is a thin off guard who can shoot the ball really well. She knocked down three in this one and also has a very nice midrange shot. Needs to gain strength but I think she could fit in at a D3 school with her shooting ability. Needs to work on her ball handling as it got a little loose at times but for the most part looked pretty solid. – 15 points
Zionsville
Delaney Richason – 6’ F – 2019
Richason was in foul trouble for most of the night but when she did play, she played really tough. She isn’t overly athletic but has skill that is needed to play at a high level in the high school game. A little smaller than her sister, but still just as effective most of the time. Really good hands and a knack for the ball. Committed to Vermont. – 6 points, 4 rebounds
Lily Bird – 5’8 G – 2019
Bird was someone who didn’t really stick out to me in the first game that I saw this year, but she rebounded the ball really well from the guard spot. Very tough guard who played minutes as Zionsville dealt with some foul trouble in their bigs. Bird was instrumental in the win tonight. – 2 points, 10 rebounds
Katey Richason – 6’1 F – 2021
Richason was really good in this one, specifically the second half. She struggled a bit in the first half but then started to get going in the second. She was really good at taking to ball to the basket and scoring. No one on Western Boone could really stop her going to the basket. A solid finisher once she gets inside but she can also shoot the deep ball. – 16 points, 6 rebounds
Megan Sheridan – 6’1 F – 2019
Sheridan is just so steady when she plays. She is poised and while not overly skilled, she is very quick laterally. She has a good nose for the ball and high points it really well. She can shoot it a little bit from deep but mostly gets all of her points from inside the lane. She’s committed to Butler for volleyball and you can tell that she is very athletic when she steps on the floor. – 10 points, 8 rebounds
Kaiti Huber – 5’8 G – 2020
Huber really impressed me in this one. While she didn’t find the scorebook often, she was the steady presence that Zionsville needed to handle the ball. With their starting point guard out for a bit due to injury, Huber stepped up. She’s a girl who you trust with the ball in her hands and controlled the trap pretty well. Huber has potential to be a solid small school contributor. – 3 points, 2 rebounds
