Over the last month, we have taken a look at 7 players who could be candidates for Miss Basketball in Michigan this season. We looked in depth at [player_tooltip player_id="2388" first="Julia" last="Ayrault"] (Groose Pointe North), [player_tooltip player_id="2392" first="Laya" last="Hartman"] (Okemos), [player_tooltip player_id="2386" first="Rickea" last="Jackson"] (Detroit Edison), [player_tooltip player_id="22322" first="Moira" last="Joiner"] (Saginaw Heritage), [player_tooltip player_id="2469" first="Jasmine" last="Powell"] (Detroit Country Day), [player_tooltip player_id="22324" first="Jeanae" last="Terry"] (Wayne Memorial), and [player_tooltip player_id="22323" first="Alyza" last="Winston"] (Muskegon).
The senior class in Michigan is very deep and extremely talented. There are definitely more than just those 7 players that could deservedly win the award. We will take a look at 5 girls who, based on their start to the season and their talent, shouldn’t be looked over for this seasons Miss Basketball.
[player_tooltip player_id="22328" first="Molly" last="Davis"] (5’10", G, Midland Dow)
Quite simply, Davis has been lights out so far this season. She has been an elite offensive player, showing the ability to score from anywhere at anytime. Davis can carry a team on the offensive end and from a leadership standpoint. These skills put her in elite company that could make a run for the Miss Basketball award.
[player_tooltip player_id="22325" first="Kate" last="McArthur"] (5’8", SG, Warren Cousino)
McArthur is a Central Michigan commit and as talented as anyone in the state. She’s always been an elite scorer, but her game has expanded so nicely over the years. McArthur is the complete package as a player, but still has that scoring flash. She has been quietly putting up Miss Basketball numbers so far this season at Warren Cousino.
[player_tooltip player_id="2468" first="Maddie" last="Novak"] (5’11, SG, Detroit Country Day)
It’s hard to stand out on a team full of high level talent, but Novak has done just that so far this season. The future Stetson guard is so mechanically sound and smart with the basketball. Novak has scored in bunches this season and in a variety of ways. She has hit from behind the arc, mid range pull ups, finished at the rim, and scored from the free throw line. If you’ve watched her play this season, you know her game has Miss Basketball written all over it.
[player_tooltip player_id="2404" first="Mahri" last="Petree"] (5’10", G, Arbor Prep)
A Miss Basketball award winner needs to get it done every night. Meet [player_tooltip player_id="2404" first="Mahri" last="Petree"]. The senior star is as consistent as they come here in Michigan and has been for years. Petree’s claim for Miss Basketball consideration could be bolstered by her veteran leadership and the fact that she contributes in so many ways on both ends of the floor.
[player_tooltip player_id="22326" first="Destiny" last="Strother"] (5’9", SG, Flint Carman Ainsworth)
Strother has been an All State player for years now and deserves a look for Miss Basketball. She attacks the rim with a quick first step and gets buckets. Strother has next level skills and is signed with Marquette. She’s an exciting player to watch and that can carry a lot of weight in being named Miss Basketball.
