CV came into the game at 20-3, while GP’s record was 20-2, so both teams have been used to winning on a regular basis all season long. Central Valley would go on to control this game by double digits for much of the contest and never let up. The final score came out to 59-44. The game between two potential 4A contenders was a hard fought and aggressive game all around. Below are five of my takeaways from this game!
1) Central Valley rebounds exceptionally well!
This comes as no surprise to me, as I have seen them all year long, but they really brought it out this game. It was a total team effort and they came up with offensive boards on countless possessions in a row at one point. Central Valley does not possess a ton of size, but they have just enough length and lots of foot speed to get to the ball quickly. 2019 5’10 F Tomekia Whitman is one of the best rebounding forwards in the state. She will be headed to Idaho State next Fall.
2) Glacier Peak is very scrappy
Glacier Peak has built a reputation for being a competitive squad and they showed that from start to finish. They keep the pressure coming and rely on it as the spark for their entire game plan. Central Valley broke their pressure well for the majority of the game, but it was easy to see the tenacity that Glacier Peak’s team possesses.
3) Haley Grambo is TOUGH
The 5’8 senior guard for Glacier Peak can really attack the basket. She displayed an arsenal of moves, showing off a spin move, euro step and off balance finishes. She kept Glacier Peak in this game on the offensive end and competed on the defensive side of the ball as well.
4) Mady Simmelink is a consistent producer for Central Valley
At 5’7, Mady is not the biggest girl on the floor, but she does all of the little things on the floor to impact the game. She is an outstanding shooter and handles the ball versus pressure very well. She was not phased by Glacier Peak’s press one bit. She scored 8 points and distributed the ball very well, making her shots when they came to her. She will be headed to Concordia University on a full ride.
5) Central Valley will be a tough out
Central Valley lost the Hull sisters from a year ago, but they are right back in a similar position in the state tournament. Confident, tough and skilled. They rebound the ball really well, they can execute in the half court and they have good foot speed. 2019 5’6 G Camryn Skaife is another tough guard for CV that can handle pressure and get hot from the outside.
