Region 3 is one of the toughest in the state as there are three legitimate contenders from the region and two teams that, should they get to state, could be viewed as viable contenders to win a state title.
Here’s what you need to know about Region 3
Favorite: Kidder County
The Wolves are one of the few undefeated teams left in the state and combines a terrific offense with staunch defense. They blew out Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier in the first round of the region tournament and has shown no signs of vulnerability throughout the regular season.
Next Up: Carrington
The Cardinals went 16-2 in the regular season, picking up numerous wins over top-ranked teams in state while losing twice to two of the best teams in Class B – Velva and Langdon/Edmore/Munich. Carrington’s got a very good offense, which can create problems for a lot of teams and while the Cardinals will have to play Kidder County in the semifinals as a result of a loss to LaMoure/Litchville-Marion in the District 5 tourney, they’ve got the ability to win the region and get to state.
In the Mix: LaMoure/Litchville-Marion, Oakes
LLM won the District 5 title, beating Oakes and Carrington. The Loboes will face Oakes in the semifinals Tuesday and the winner of that game will play for the right to play in the state tournament. With the way the Loboes have been playing, they’ve got a chance to beat anybody at this point. They’ve proven they can grind out wins.
Oakes won 15 games in the regular season and won twice to advance through the district tournament. The Tornadoes beat Linton/HMB in the first round of the district tournament to advance to the semifinals where they’ll face a red-hot LLM squad.
