Region 4 might be the best in the state as arguably the two best teams in Class B reside in the region. With two teams that could legitimately win a state title, the region final game could be one of the best games of the season.
Here’s what you need to know about Region 4
Favorite: Langdon/Edmore/Munich
The Cardinals haven’t lost since suffering back-to-back defeats to Stephen-Argyle (a top-10 team in small-school Minnesota) and Thompson (a top-fiveish team in Class B) at the beginning of December. They won back-to-back games in the same week over Grafton/St. Thomas and Four Winds/Minnewaukan, vaulting them to the top spot in the Class B rankings and they’ve been on a tear for about two months now. A win over Harvey/Wells County likely sets up a rematch with the Indians in what could be the game of the year.
Up Next: Four Winds/Minnewaukan
The Indians came up just short in what might’ve been the game of the year in Class B a few weeks ago, losing 58-56 to LEM. Four Winds certainly proved its mettle throughout the regular season though, earning several hard-fought wins and a number of blowout wins. The Indians have cruised thus far in the postseason and will face a Dunseith team they beat by 13 earlier in the year. A win there means a likely rematch with the Cardinals with a trip to state on the line.
In the Mix: Harvey/Wells County, Dunseith
The Dragons went 0-3 against Four Winds and LEM but two of the three losses were in competitive fashion. Dunseith won 13 games in the regular season, using a strong offense to power the way.
Harvey/Wells County has 16 wins on the year and doesn’t have a loss to a team not ranked in last week’s top-10. But the seven combined losses are by a combined 160 points, illustrating a notion that the Hornets are good, but significantly short of great. They’ll have to be great in order to beat LEM or Four Winds (a team they lost to by 32 in the district tournament).
