Here’s what you need to know about Region 1
Favorite: Kindred
The Vikings won 17 games in the regular season and beat Oak Grove handily in the first round of the Region tournament. Armed with the region’s best offense – 60.7 points per game – and an undefeated record against teams in the region during the regular season, a title runs through them. The Vikings are the defending region champs and the favorite to return to state.
Up Next: Richland
The Colts are the clear second best team in the region and lost just once to Region 1 opponents during the regular season – a 56-37 loss to the Vikings. Richland isn’t dominant on any one end of the floor but showed throughout the regular season that it is capable of winning games in contested fashion. That experience may come in handy down the line as games continue to get more nip-and-tuck.
In the Mix: Enderlin, Central Cass
Central Cass is one of the more battle-tested teams in the section as the Squirrels grinded their way through a challenging regular season plus two wins already in Region play. The Squirrels started things off by beating Tri-State 86-42 and advanced to the region semis with a 68-67 overtime win over Milnor/North Sargent.
Enderlin is heading into the postseason hot, as winners of four in a row plus a fifth win in the first round of the Region tournament. The Eagles beat Northern Cass 63-61 in the first game and face a Richland team that they lost to by 18 a month ago.
