We will cover who you should watch for, the teams that could come out of nowhere, and of course, the bracket buster candidate. We will also list five players from each class that you need to keep an eye on throughout the bracket as they can really change the game in a hurry. The complete Region 4 bracket is posted below.
The Teams
Prairie (17-3)
Council Bluffs Jefferson (12-9)
Council Bluffs Lincoln (11-9)
Urbandale (11-9)
Cedar Rapids Kennedy (7-12)
The Favorite
Prairie
Prairie is the odds on favorite to win this region. They are scoring 55.1 points a game and have beaten everyone else pretty handily. They are shooting less than 40 percent from the floor, but they score so much because they very rarely turn the ball over. Prairie should be able to run through this region. Junior Sidney McCrea leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points a game.
The Sleeper
Urbandale
This is a really good team, despite what the record shows. They play a really tough schedule and all of their losses have came to solid teams. Urbandale leads the region in points per game with 58.8 a game. Urbandale has played both Jefferson and Lincoln and destroyed them both by 27 points and 58 points, respectively. They’ll meet Prairie in the finals. Maya Gyamfi, a junior, leads the team with 13.9 points a game.
The Outside Shots
Council Bluffs Jefferson
This was a team that got destroyed by Urbandale and then split the season series with Lincoln. They are scoring 49.8 points a game and have made 139 3-pointers on the year which is the most in the region. Jefferson is a team that could knock off a team if they were hot, but I don’t think that it is a team that could get all that hot. Allison Schubert, a junior, leads the squad with 15.2 points a game.
Council Bluffs Lincoln
Scoring 47.3 points a game, they sit at the bottom of the region in scoring the ball. This is a team that has some skill, but they turn the ball over quite a bit and can’t really force turnovers from the other team. This season they are the team with the least amount of steals in the region and the third most turnovers. Sophomore Jillian Shanks leads them with 12.2 points a game.
