So we have taken a look at the top guards and wings from the Dayton Underclass event, today I will break down some of the top post players that made an impression at the event last week. These are kids who not only play a key part in the paint, but also defensively.
Here are five who performed well in this elite event.
Madison Bartley Madison Bartley 6'3" | C Fairmont High School | 2020 State OH , 6-2 2020, Kettering Fairmont- Without question the top post player in this event. Madison was difficult to defend as she used her body well in the paint and around the rim. Strong, solid post player who also stepped out and hit a three, showing her impressive range. Has good handles for her size and will run the floor in transition as well as any post player in Ohio. Her long frame makes her difficult to defend, and she finishes well at the rim. As mentioned, she has good range and will hit the midrange shot.
Taylor Gray Taylor Gray 6'0" | C Arcanum | 2022 OH , 6-0 2022, Arcanum- Multi-sport athlete who opened a lot of eyes this season with a good freshman season. Taylor played well around the rim, which is her strongest part of the game. Good rebounder and defender against opposing post players.
Also does a nice job on the offensive boards. Physically strong and can handle contact.
Once she improves her handles and her transition game, she will be tough to handle.
Anna Landing Anna Landing 6'2" | PF Beavercreek | 2021 OH , 6-2 2021, Beavercreek- it’s not hard to figure out why Anna has started receiving the Division One offers. She can do a lot with her frame not only around the rim, but out on the perimeter. Good size and long with good handles.
Can shoot the three with solid intangibles. Can get to baseline for a pull-up shot or finish at the rim. Good ball control and great at creating movement.
Makenzie Maschino, 5-9 2022, Covington- While she plays the post at Covington, she has the ability to step out and play the 4 if needed. She is an undersized post, she can defend inside and out, and get physical on the block. She has the ability to contain on the perimeter. Doesn’t score a lot, but is a strong rebounder.
Has a lot of intangibles with a good effort. Still working on skill development for her perimeter game.
Val Muhlenkamp Val Muhlenkamp 6'0" | C Fort Recovery High School | 2020 OH , 6-0 2020, Fort Recovery- she is more of a forward than a true post, but Val is a well-rounded player who can do a lot on the floor, more than just score inside. She can play both inside and outside with good range. Muhlenkamp has a good midrange shot, and can be a mismatch due to her size and skills. She is strong on the boards, and has the ability to step out, handle the ball and score.
Runs the floor well in transition, and is athletic to create problems.
