Sixty of the top girls basketball players from the classes of 2020-2022 were on display last week at the 4th annual Bill Moss Underclass Dayton All-Star Game, held at Edison State College in Piqua. There were three games with the first game showcasing all 2020s for the two dozen college coaches in attendance, while the final two games were both a mix of 2021/22s.
While our own Tony Peters gave you his top performers, I will also break down the night in three categories; guards, wings, posts.
Today a look at 5 guards who impressed me:
Haleigh Mayo-Behnken, 5-9 2020 Greenville- this kid has been working as hard as anyone in the gym to improve her game. She performed well in this game without getting her game in the scorebook. She was scrappy all over the court, was strong on the boards, and very aggressive with and without the ball. One of the most improved players in Dayton, Haleigh moves up the radar everytime I see her. She can score as she averaged 13 points per game during her season.
Sydney Borquin Sydney Borquin 5'8" | CG Jonathan Alder High School | 2020 OH , 5-7 2020, Jonathan Alder- all over the court, Sydney is a fantastic floor general with the ability to make the good pass or pull up with the midrange jumper. I was impressed how she ran the floor and made the strong outlet pass which led to some easy scores for her team. Heady, smart guard who showed me good handles and an aggressive defender. Has good range and can score from the perimeter,
Mickayla Perdue, 5-8 2021, Springfield- can be a human highlight reel with her ability to get to the rim on anyone, can score or get to the line. This kid has no fears on the court, great handles and the ability to push the ball in transition. Can get a shot off on anyone at anytime, from anywhere. Great three-point range from any angle, from either corner all the way around the arc. Micky has great court vision, and forced the defense to be come out on her, allowing her to penetrate and dish/score.
Madelyn Fearon Madelyn Fearon 5'6" | CG Arcanum | 2022 State OH , 5-8 2022, Arcanum- one of the more impressive days for a freshman, Fearon did what she is known for, her perimeter game. Connected on two long threes early in the game on her first two shots. She finished with 12 points, which tied her for team high in the second game. Good handles and her game has elevated after a good freshman year on her varsity squad. Moves well without the ball and looks to get her teammates involved.
Grace Forrest, 5-7 2021, Mechanicsburg- her game has really elevated over the last year. Skilled and fundamental, Grace has really taken her game to the next level. She is a gym rat and always looks to get better. Can get to the rim and is a smart, heady player. She went to the line nine times in her three-quarter game, and does a good job drawing the defense toward her. Good perimeter game, and plays good defense. Look for her game to continue to grow.
