Grassroots Preview: MBA Select 17U
The MBA Select program has established itself as one of the most consistent programs in the state for the past several years in both boys’ and girls’ basketball. They typically field one or two girls’ teams in each age group, and they often have the better players in the South Bend, Mishawaka, and Elkhart areas, as well as several girls from lower Michigan. This year the team looks like it has a chance to be very strong and competitive, and the program is organized by Mr. Rod Creech.

Overview: I really like several components of this team. Antreese Shelton draws coaches’ attention almost immediately, because she is extremely long, tall, and fluidly athletic with some bounce. She has a little perimeter skill, but she’s probably best in the mid-post and isn’t really a back-to-the-basket type of ‘big’. Reganne Pate is one of the state’s best pure shooters, regardless of class. She can also handle it and play a little point guard at times. Kaitlyn Costner is a sleeping talent ready to explode. She is an incredible athlete in all directions, as she can run, jump, and change directions with the best of them. The more she develops her skillset, I think several Division-I schools will follow her around. Brielle Harrison has really good length, good all-around athleticism, and she plays with a motor. She is a nice mid-post forward who rebounds it well. And Trinity Clinton just produces. She’s a strong and athletic wing forward who can do a little of everything, but she always ends up stuffing the stat sheet. This group will likely attract a variety of college interest, from some Division-I schools down through the ranks of small colleges.
