Grassroots Preview: Team Teague 17U
Team Teague was formed a few years back on the boys’ side by Mr. Shawn Teague of the large Teague family in Indianapolis. Shawn’s sons Jeff and Marquis have both played professionally in the NBA, so I’m sure you recognize the family name. I’m not saying there weren’t more Team Teague girls’ groups in the younger age groups in years past, but the last high school-aged team I recall was a 16U group when these 2020 prospects were in 8th Grade. This year, however, there is a really nice 17U group, and a talented 15U group as well.

Overview: This team is sure to make an impression on college coaches this Spring & Summer. There are some talented athletes and really nice ballplayers/prospects on this squad. K’Ja Talley is one of the most under-recruited prospects in Indiana right now. She is extremely long, very athletic and bouncy, and she is very coachable and plays with a great motor. High school teammate Alaysia Davis is another under-recruited talent. She has a strong frame, some length, and very good athleticism. She can play around the block or in the mid-post effectively. I’ve raved over and over about Cherrelle Newsom, and though shorter, she is strong, very quick/fast, and extremely tough-nosed. She’s a dangerous 3-point shooter and she can defend the ball 84-feet. Kyrstin Green is another nice point guard prospect. She is a little water bug with great speed and quickness. She is a playmaker off the bounce and looks to set up teammates, but she can score it as well. She’s also a nice on-ball defender. Her high school teammate, Kiara Lewis, is a powerful, highly productive interior player who has good hands and feet and can finish over, around, and through defenders. Without question, there are some really nice small college prospects here, but I think there are some Division-I talents here as well who maybe just haven’t had the exposure to those schools yet.
