Here’s a look at the teams in the Class A Field:
Bismarck Century
The tournament favorite, the Patriots have steamrolled the competition pretty much all season. They beat Mandan by 30 in the WDA Tournament championship game, further strengthening their ever-tight grip on the top standing in the state.
Mandan
The Braves can’t seem to beat Bismarck Century this year but thus far, they’ve handled pretty much everybody else with relative ease. Mandan has a tough road to a state title though as it’ll get two of the best teams the EDC has to offer in all likelihood.
Devils Lake
The best team in the EDC by a significant margin this winter, the Firebirds’ only loss was in the final game of the regular season to Fargo Davies. They proceeded to beat Fargo Shanley for a third time
Fargo Shanley
The Deacons have been one of the best teams in the state all year and while three of their four losses are to Devils Lake, two have been nip-and-tuck affairs. This team has the talent and confidence to win multiple games in the tournament and it’s got experience playing in hotly-contested fashion.
Bismarck Legacy
Bismarck Legacy had to grind its way to a state tournament berth, losing to Mandan in the WDA semifinals before edging Bismarck St. Mary’s in the third-place game. The Sabers have been a top-five team in state all year and with a stingy defense plus great offensive balance, this is a team that can win multiple games in this tournament.
West Fargo Sheyenne
The Mustangs took out West Fargo in the consolation final to earn a state tournament bid and have been one of the more consistent teams in the EDC all season. They’ve shown they can hang with the best teams in the league. They’ll get a rematch with Mandan from the first game of the season.
Williston
Williston pulled off a pair of upsets over Jamestown and Bismarck to secure a state bid. The Coyotes were a sub-.500 team in the regular season but have built up about two months of solid play now. So their confidence is most certainly high.
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders beat a hot Fargo Davies club in the EDC Tournament to clinch a state-tournament bid after going 13-7 in the regular season. Red River is 0-6 against the EDC teams in the state field and will open with the tournament favorite – Bismarck Century.
