As the high school post season awards roll in, it’s important to remember that grassroots season is up next. There is no time to rest for these young athletes. The players in the junior class are on the brink of preparing to become senior leaders. Some will make a statement and show us what to expect over the coming year.
Here are some juniors to keep an eye on this spring:
[player_tooltip player_id="126308" first="Maize" last="Brown"] (SG, Portage Central)
Brown is a high percentage shooter. She uses her size to play over top of the defense. With her vastly improving perimeter game, there is a great deal of potential in her game.
[player_tooltip player_id="23764" first="Ellie" last="Droste"] (PG, Pewamo-Westphalia)
Droste had an outstanding high school playoff run. She was almost impossible to stop. I expect Droste to use this as a spring board into grassroots season.
[player_tooltip player_id="126247" first="Jasmine" last="Edwards"] (Wing, Westland John Glenn)
Edwards is a very smart player. She plays her matchups well, always looking for an advantage over her defender. Edwards has a nice mid range game.
[player_tooltip player_id="23751" first="Cameron" last="Grant"] (F, Macomb Dakota)
Grant is knocking on the door of greatness. She is the definition of versatility with her ability to score inside or outside. Grant can effectively cover multiple positions.
[player_tooltip player_id="126248" first="Jolee" last="Houle"] (G, Grand Haven)
Houle just continues to get better. She’s an excellent shooter from mid range and from behind the 3 point line. Houle moves withoit the ball and frees herself for open looks.
[player_tooltip player_id="126261" first="Kelynn" last="Kujat"] (SG, Frankenmuth)
If you’re a next level coach that needs a shooter: Here you go. Kujat is a game changer from behind the arc. Already the record holder, she will crush the all time made 3 pointers mark at Frankenmuth.
[player_tooltip player_id="126235" first="Cheyenne" last="McEvans"] (G, Southfield A&T)
McEvans is one of the most skilled sophomores in Michigan. She will be a targeted prospect for many college coaches. McEvans aggressively attacks the rim and finishes with the best.
[player_tooltip player_id="126270" first="Mattison" last="Rayman"] (F, Otsego)
Rayman is a fearless player. She’s the type of kid that will be the first on the floor for a loose ball. Rayman sets the tone for her team.
[player_tooltip player_id="126253" first="Lolo" last="Reed"] (PG, Saginaw Heritage)
With some stars at Saginaw Heritage moving on to the next level, there is a huge opportunity for Reed. She can use this spring as a starting point to a huge senior season.
[player_tooltip player_id="2516" first="Shaulana" last="Wagner"] (G, DEPSA)
Wagner is a big time prospect. She’s an athletic energy player who can spark her team at any time. Wagner is a physical player that can shoot and rebound.
