Two major events for all levels of college ball except for the division one, Border War and Hoop It Up showcase events. There were many match ups from teams with girls out of Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Tulsa, and Muskogee against talent from bordering states such as Arkansas, Missouri and Texas! A slew of girls playing in one weekend, unfortunately all players are not able to be seen, I spent majority of my time at the new Titan Sports and Performance Center located in Tulsa at Hoop It Up Showcase hosted by OK Round Ball and Oklahoma PWP.
Many exciting games for girl’s basketball in Oklahoma, the most notable was a featured game between the Arkansas Banshees 17U UAA versus the Oklahoma Swarm BlueStar 17U. Both teams include some top players in Oklahoma from all around the state, with familiar faces from some of your most competitive girls high school programs in Oklahoma. There were some takeaways from the game and performances from some players out of Oklahoma. Pressure defense, secured rebounds, or forcing difficult passes, watching players work on defense is one of the best parts of basketball! Here’s some players that took action on the defensive end of the court, Top Defenders from the game.
#34 Shay Stone, Junior, 6’3, Center, East Central HS, AR Banshees 17U UAA
Very solid body frame. Shay makes it made it difficult to execute moves around her due to her solidness. She also moved well to be able to position herself correctly on defense most times, but if she was late or behind the offender, she made up for it by staying in front and highlighting her strength

#10 Kelbie Washington, Sophomore, 5’8, Point Guard, Norman HS, AR Banshees 17U UAA
Immediately as Kelbie entered the game, she stole the ball in transition. Throughout the game, Kelbie got many touches on the ball and stole the ball from many ways like ran through passes in passing lanes, pressure defense to swipe the ball, and floating balls in transition.
#10 Angel Scott, Sophomore, 5’9, Point Guard, Deer Creek HS, OK Swarm BlueStar 17U
Very long player consisting of long arms and long legs. Angel uses her length very well on the defensive end which I saw her perform many times in game by running through many passes. She also used her length to help her grab rebounds from both end of the floor.
#15 Ashlyn Sage, Sophomore, 6’1, Guard/Forward, Weatherford HS, OK Swarm BlueStar 17U
She was a force on the boards during the game. Ashlyn grabbed rebounds over players to get the offensive rebound, she makes the right decision on going up or escaping traffic to gain better control. I also love the way in which Sage secures the rebound while grabbing the ball and after she lands.
