At around 5’10, she has ideal size to make passes over the top of most defenders. She is also a capable scorer in the off-guard slot. Nakia had a strong showing at the Heart of Texas event and has continued to play well in the first half of the club season. After joining the Northwest Greyhounds, the star of Lynwood High School has seen an uprise in her recruitment, so it is a good time for an update on the Division 1 prospect. Prep Girls Hoops caught up with Nakia to see how the process has been going in her final season of club ball.
Interview:
1) How has the recruiting process been going so far?
My recruiting process has been going great. Ever since I started playing with the northwest grey hounds my recruiting has jumped to new levels .Helping me get in and stay in contact with mid major D1 schools.
2) Which schools have shown the most interest at this point?
I have had many schools show interest in me this year. The schools showing the most interest right now are Saint Mary’s, Fresno state and Boise State. But that is no limit to the many others recruiting me.
3) What are you looking for the most when deciding on a college?
When looking for a college the first thing that comes to mind is a home away from home. I want an environment that I’m comfortable in, coaches, players and all. The goal is D1 but if no D1 school feels right then I will choose where fits me best. Of course education and location are important in my decision but I’m open to going far or staying close to home. I just wanna go somewhere that I can grow as a young lady and player.
4) What do you need to continue to work on to play at the level you want to?
Going into my senior season I need to work on a quick pull up mid-range jump shot. I think that’s a lost art in girls basketball and can take a good player and make them a great player. Also, when going to the next level the biggest thing I believe I’ll have to work on is the strength and conditioning. I know I can practice a move or shot a million times and get it down but conditioning and strength are things that over time I have to build up. Which is why I plan on starting now, so I’ll be a little ahead of the game when my freshman year in college comes.
Scout’s Take:
Nakia Boston has the ability to play at some Division 1 college. She has good size, basketball IQ and the skill set to facilitate or score it. She has the ability to play some 1 or 2 at 5’10, but her position at the collegiate level is to be determined based on the roster needs and her development. I would not be surprised to see her play the off-guard primarily and handle some point guard duties as needed. Nakia mentioned that she has no visits lined up at this time, but she would like to set some up as soon as possible. She currently has multiple D1 mid majors in contact with her and that interest can turn into an offer with a strong summer. As mentioned, if she does not find the right fit at the D1 level, Nakia could make some D2 school very lucky as well. But for now, D1 is her goal.
