Nielson: “Wow, I haven’t heard that in a while, hahaha. But I’ve been in the gym, working out and playing AAU”
Macey Nielson is in the class 2020, a riddled class with tons of talent. She has seen and played against some of the best in the state, and there’s no reason why she shouldn’t be mentioned with them. Nelson has a very diverse game. She is capable of guarding positions one through four.
PGH: How’s summer ball going?
Nielson: Great! I’m in a new role this summer playing the point guard most of the time. I haven’t played too much point so It’s helping out my court vision and recognizing what the defense is doing early. I’ve guarded point guards before just never ran the point”
Nelson has really improved on her ball handling skills and court vision. During the last few tournaments she has really become a floor general. She is going into her second year playing with the Pentagon Schoolers. Their team has a nice mixture of threes and fours. This has allowed her to focus on playing the point, instead of her normal three and four spots.
Nielson: “I’ve been able to create for my teammates by getting downhill and attacking. Then when I’m off the ball, I can get my shot off quicker when my teammates penetrate and dish”
PGH: That’s great! Any colleges looking your way? What have they said about your game?
Nielson: “Yes! Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt and Concordia in Nebraska have all reached out. Recently I’ve been in communications with Wayne State as well. They all mentioned they like my versatility and my ability to shoot the ball”
We are just about mid-way through the summer season and we here at PGH believe Nielson has much more in-store. Her continued development, position adjustment and overall basketball intellect will certainly have more colleges calling.
